Do I need a passport or Visa to enter Mexico from the US?

By law anyone traveling into Mexico and going past the border towns is required to have a Mexican tourist visa.  However, because this law is never enforced, the overwhelming majority of visitors to San Felipe from the U.S. do not get a visa.   It is noteworthy that there are no immigrations controls between the U.S. border and San Felipe, Mexico.
 

Do I need a passport to return to the United States?

So you visited San Felipe Mexico from the U.S., had a fun filled vacation and now it's time to head for the border and cross back into the U.S. The travel document you require depends on whether you are a U.S. Citizen, or a lawful permanent resident.
 
The US Border and Customs Enforcement under the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative have specified a list of acceptable U.S. travel documents for crossing the Mexico - U.S. border which a U.S. citizen may present for re-entry into the U.S.  This includes:
  • U.S. Passport
  • U.S. Passport Card
  • Enhanced Drivers license and few more

Non U.S. Citizens, who are lawful permanent residents of the U.S. may present documents which are approved for re-entry into the U.S.  Acceptable travel documents for lawful U.S. residents includes:
  • Green Card
  • H1-B visa for foreign workers in the U.S.
  • F1 student visa for foreign students studying in the U.S.
 

Can I fly into San Felipe Mexico?

Sea Port Airlines briefly offered flights to San Felipe beginning November 2015 but has since stopped flight.  The closest airports in the US now are Yuma and San Diego airports.  You can rent a car from either airport and drive down to San Felipe.  Yuma to San Felipe is about 3 hours.  While San Diego to San Felipe is about 4 hours.
 

Is it a good idea to bring my jet-ski to San Felipe for a few days in December?

 Jet-skis are quite the thing, especially in summer when the water is warm (around 90 degrees). If you like cool (60-64 degree) water and occasional wind-blown waves you will be in Paradise in December. If you are in town, then you can launch from the El Cortez Hotel boat ramp or the ramp at the south end of the harbor. Don`t forget to buy Mexican auto insurance that covers the trailer and jet-ski.
 

Are U.S. Dollars accepted in San Felipe?

U.S. Dollars are accepted everywhere in San Felipe (except for paying the electricity bills). Merchants are glad to get your dollars.

What Happens if I have a breakdown while driving to San Felipe

Vehichle breakdown along the way will depending on where you are coming from and where the breakdown occurs. For our US guests, if you have a breakdown along the road while driving in the US, AAA is usually the best option.  Once you cross the border in Mexico, you have the Green Angels Roadside Assistance who can hlep with vehicle breakdown.  Green Angels are the Mexican equivalent of AAA in the US. Green Angels operate through Mexico to assist tourists.
